Recap and News 01/29/2009

PRACTICE IS CANCELED TONIGHT, THURSDAY, JANUARY 29, 2009 DUE TO RAIN.

RECAP

While the Inferno did not win a game at the Gasparilla Cup, the experience was good for the team. They played two good teams close just came up a little short. If not anything else, they learned what happens when they play as a TEAM and when they don't. At the end of it all, I was proud of how our team responded after the bad game 2 loss.

Game 10, the last regular season game was another disappointing loss. The Inferno played a really good team but their downfall was the tale of two teams. The team that came out strong and took a 1 - 0 lead and then the team that lost it's drive and gave up 4 goals. As they head into the TARSA End of Season Tournament the Inferno now know that they have to give it their all until the last whistle is blown.

Weekly Recap and News - 01/10/2009

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and that you enjoyed time with family and friends. For most of us the lights are taken down, trees put away, and the decorations boxed up and it is time to move on with a brand new year. This is at least true for me, and part of that is getting back in the groove with the team website. So, let's get started.

Game 9 recap:

If you are observant you will see that there is no recap for game #8 but we lost 1 - 5 and that is all that should be said about.

Game #9 is another story. After the holiday break we instilled a new formation and only practiced two times with it before this Saturday's game. As you know this Saturday was not just any game, it was the game circled on the calendar at the beginning of the season, it was the game for bragging rights, it was WCAA Inferno verses the WCAA Storm, it was... THE RIVALRY.

Two good teams clashed today for, what I consider, the best game of the year. The game started with both teams feeling the other out with the Inferno seemingly controlling the tempo. The Inferno's defense was controlling the Storm's offense and giving the Inferno's offense several scoring opportunities but were not able to deliver. Then in one breakdown, it only takes one, the Storm scored first. However, the Inferno did not hang their heads and give up, instead they continued to play hard and were able to tie the game before halftime. In the second half the Storm made adjustments and were able to grab the tempo for a short while and in that moment almost took the lead but our defense stood their ground and the Inferno's coaches made adjustments of their own. Then the Inferno were able to take the tempo back and scored their second goal . The Storm put up a great effort but the Inferno continued to play hard down the stretch and were able to hold them off until the game was over, winning by the score, 2 - 1.

I want to say this was the best game I had seen the Inferno play. Every single player gave it all they had for the entire game. We should all be very proud of our players, I know I am.

What's happening...

I want to apologize for not doing a weekly update, we had company and it was busy around here for a while. With that said, here is what's happening in the world of Team Inferno.

First let's visit last weeks game, game 7 of the season. The Inferno were on the road again... "on the road again, I just can't wait to get on the road again", sorry I drifted for a minute. Anyway, even though the Inferno lost 1 - 0 they played their best game of the season. The team they faced is currently #1 in the standings and has been together for the past few seasons and has not lost a game in 2 years. The Inferno gave them everything they could handle and the one goal they gave up was a fluke, lucky goal, but hey, we all know that luck is part of the game. If the Inferno can play with the same intensity, drive, passion, and good teamwork the rest of the way they can do a lot of good things. They now know it is in them so it is their choice to want it the same way every week.

Pictures will be posted from the game, check back often as they could appear at anytime. Laura has been busy and she does not have to be the only one taking and sharing pictures. If you take pictures and would like to share just email me, jerry.bolt@gmail.com and I will be glad to tell you how to post them to our photo album.

Now for this week's game. The Inferno have a home game against Hillborough United #4. The game starts at 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2008. Please be there by 11:20 AM so we can warm up together. Wear your red shirts.

More information about upcoming games and tournaments will be in the next update which I will have before the end of the weekend. Yes, really.

If you cannot make the game please email or call a coach.

See you tomorrow.

Weekly Recap and News - 12/07/2008

Game 6 Recap:

After a two week layoff the Inferno needed to knock off the rust before they started playing good again. The opposing team took more shots and controlled the tempo for most of the game. Regardless, the Inferno still managed to keep the game close and even had an opportunity to take the lead and possibly a victory. Unfortunately the rust did not fall off in time as they were dealt a 3-2 loss. After a sluggish first half the Inferno began playing tough in the second and showed the heart and determination they have displayed for most of the season. Now that the Inferno are back in the groove let's hope we can see that same toughness for both halves next week.

Check back as pictures from the game will be posted.

Really Late Game Recap and Upcoming News

First I want to apologize for getting this out so late. It somewhat seems anti-climatic at this point. However, for the record books here is the game 5 recap.

The Inferno traveled to Hernando county to take on the First Hernando #4 team. They controlled the tempo for most the game and had many scoring opportunities but were only able to capitalize on one. Because the game was close the opposing team pressed at the end and had a couple of scoring opportunities themselves but our defense was able to hold them off. That one score was enough as the Inferno were able to go away with a 1 - 0 victory.

While there are areas that the Inferno need to improve on, like finishing scoring opportunities better, the team has shown improvement from game to game. I expect continuing improvement and great things as the season continues to unfold. This is a great group of kids and a pleasure to be watch and be around.

Our practice schedule for next week is:

---

Our next game is at home, December 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM against Central Pasco #1. Please be there at 1:15 PM to help warm up and prepare for the game.

---

Our picture day is January 10, 2008, the day of our game with the other WCAA team. I don't have a time yet but it will probably be before the game which is at 2:00 PM. We will wear RED that day.

---

I will close by saying, I know we all have our fair share of problems and worries but if we take the time to step back and look at the good things in light of our problems we can see how blessed we really are. So, this day and this season I encourage everyone to look at all the ways you are blessed, give thanks, and do what you can to help those who are less fortunate than you. With that, I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
